City info

City portrait

From the plateau to the valley

Schramberg, with its approximately 21,000 inhabitants, lies in a scenic location in five valleys of the Middle Black Forest and has spread out with its districts Sulgen, Waldmössingen, Heiligenbronn, Schönbronn and Tennenbronn onto the plateau and into the Baden region. Originally a clock-making and industrial town, Schramberg has now developed into a modern city that offers culture, education, sports, leisure, nature, shopping and much more for citizens and tourists. With its diverse offerings, Schramberg more than lives up to its function as a medium-sized center for the surrounding communities.

Economy

Schramberg was and is a town of precision mechanics. Towards the end of the 19th century, Erhard Junghans, together with his brother Arthur, developed the factory founded by their father in 1861 into one of Europe's leading watch manufacturers. Now that watch production has lost its economic supremacy in Schramberg, precision mechanics and high-tech industrial suppliers form the backbone of Schramberg's economy. However, most of these companies have migrated from the valley to the sub-communities on the heights, mainly Sulgen and Waldmössingen. The city has developed into an interesting business location and is proud to offer around 12,000 jobs in industry, trade, crafts and services.

Together instead of against each other: Industry in rural areas.
